Friday Fun Tweets

What do you do when you have too many choices? No eenie-meenie-miney-moe. No “rink-a-dink, a bottle of ink & you stink”. No throwing darts or anything like that. Not even screaming. This is my dilemma this week for Friday Fun Tweets.

There are at least 50 tweets to choose from for this edition. Tweets spanning all sports. If only I had some Simon Cowell in me, I could just say “That was horrible” and move on to the next one. But, I do not.

Whittling down while I type……..Friday Fun Tweets:

*

Absolutely have to start with some Sonics love. An NBA or Sonics fan I am not, but to see a city lose a team like Seattle did, makes me want to root for them. As news broke this week that Seattle may get a new arena soon, I can’t help but cheer for them. So I lead off with them, in this edition of Friday Fun Tweets:

BONUS: Came across one that explains Mondays not only in Seattle but potentially, everywhere.

*

The sensation that is Jeremy Lin is all over Twitter, sports websites, YouTube and…….grocery stores?

*

A surprising development this week at ESPN and Monday Night Football. Ron Jaworski, who many say is a top-notch football analyst, was “removed” from the Monday Night Football booth and moved into the studio. Why? Who knows. But I love the tweets that came out of it.

*

Technically speaking, football is over, Thank goodness for Twitter.

Not every tweet is “fun” but sometimes tweets just make you stop and say “WOW” or “WHOA”.

*

No specific category for these but they are Friday Fun Tweet worthy.

RIP Gary Carter

*

And just like that, the sports world loses another one.

Hall of Famer Gary Carter passed away today. Diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2011, Carter lost that battle today. Known asKid“, when people think of Gary Carter one of the many things they think of is his smile.

*

“Kid” and his smile are now gone. The sports Twitterverse weighs in with their thoughts, including a special Tweet of the Day. If you see a link in a tweet, click it. It will be worth it.

“I’d Love To Keep Him But I Can’t”

Jess Brown is my friend. I haven’t exactly met her yet but she is, at the very least, my Twitter friend. Our work schedules have prevented us from meeting but I feel like I know her.

Yesterday, I got to know her a little bit better. Because she’s my friend I asked if I could blog about this tweet. Watch:

I find myself watching that video over and over tonight. I think of my own son who will be 11 later this year. I think about his future. There are dreams I’d like to see come true for him. My prayers are for him to be a blessing to others throughout his life I “hope” will come true.

Brandon is already blessing others. He’s inspiring others with how he “lives”. Notice I didn’t say “lived”. He’s living his life each and every day. He’s become a teacher in his short 11 years. Even to the Gonzaga basketball team.

Brandon and his mom have hopes and dreams too. I hope they all come true with whatever time he has left on this earth. But I really pray that there are Zip’s in heaven.

What Cancer Can’t Do

Cancer is so limited.

It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the spirit.
It cannot lessen the power of the resurrection.

Amen—amen.

If you want to keep up to date on Brandon’s status, you can send a Facebook Friend request here, LIKE this page or check out the website www.brandonscancerwars.com. Please feel free to share this story and say a prayer for Brandon and his mom. Thank you!

And thank you Brandon, Jo Lynn and Jess.

Sports Valentines: From Love Boat To Football

Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air. For some strange reason I wanted to sing this song today.

Even on my Twitter timeline, love is in the air.

As my timeline and lists are dominated by men, many tweets today were of this ilk:

Definitely not a favorite day of mine. It is just any other day. I’m not a high-maintenance kind of gal. I’m a “you better spoil me year-round and not just one or two days a year” kind of gal.

Oops, sorry. Back to sports.

Catching my eye today, Major League Soccer tweeted:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but I’m having trouble getting beyond “umm…” for this one.

Only one way to finish this Valentine’s Day post off. With football. Click the link to feel the love?

It’s Jerry Sandusky’s Day

This is the story that never ends.

It won’t end for the ‘reported’ victims.

It won’t end for media.

It won’t end for Penn State.

It won’t end for Jerry Sandusky.

Today, Judge John Cleland, ruled in Sandusky’s favor allowing him to see some of his grandchildren as well as a jury of his peers. Sandusky, who had been under house arrest since December, will now be allowed to have adult visitors, parent-supervised visits with his grandchildren and more in multiple rulings Cleland gave to the defense.

*

Commentary: I’ve written a couple of posts on this subject before:”Hey Penn State – What About the Kids?” and Penn State – 11/9/11“.  Keeping a close eye on this story, I’m sure I will have more to say at it goes on. But today, it is Jerry Sandusky’s day.

He will have his time with his grandchildren. Friends will be allowed to visit him. He can go outside on his porch without restriction. And he will have his day in court. That’s how it should be.

In this country, that’s how it should be right?
