Overrated Overreaction

The first week of college football is just about done. And that well-worn cheer we all hate to hear echoed through the halls of Twitter.

O-VER-RA-TED *clap clap clap-clap-clap*

***

Michigan’s dismantling by Alabama on Saturday was the biggest surprise of ranked teams on Saturday. Top 10 in the country, the Wolverines were just manhandled in the trenches and Heisman hopeful, Denard Robinson, never really got on track. SEC domination by the Crimson Tide at its finest.

It didn’t help that tweets like this went around last week before the game:

But they did. And Michigan got pasted. So of course, #overrated tweets could be found

***

But it’s not just Michigan…

Oklahoma struggled with UTEP (UTEP for goodness sake) before pulling away late in the fourth quarter to win 24-7. Oklahoma came into the game ranked #4.

Conferences were not immune

At least some found humor in it

Here’s the deal. Polls should not come out until games have been played on the field. Play a couple of games, then vote. But since they are there, I’ll play along.

As long as there are polls, there will be teams that are overrated. And as long as there are overrated teams, there will be overreactions!

Rather than embarrass the tweeters, I’ll paraphrase:

–We paid this guy how much?

–WTF was that?

–Same old story, every year.

–Damn stinking it up in the first game of the year!!!!!!

Fans across the country could be ‘heard’ agonizing across the country from Thursday through today about their  teams. It was as if Football Armageddon descended upon Ann Arbor, Norman, Pullman, Berkley, Houston…..after one game.

Can you say o-ver-re-ac-tion?

Yes We Can!

The season is young. There’s still football left to play. Meat to grill. Tailgating to attend. And yes, polls to vote on.

It’s football. It’s America.

Relax college football fan. It could be worse.

You could be a Maryland fan:

Erin Go Jiggy!

***

Our wonderful friend, “Jungle Bird” revealed himself to the world again. If you’ll re”caw”l, he made himself known at the US Open golf tournament. “Enjoy the jail cell, pal” were the words uttered by Webb Simpson when Jungle Bird crashed his trophy presentation.

Today, we find him in Ireland:

A few thoughts from the tweeps:

This ain’t golf, pal. This is football. It’s in Ireland but it’s still football.
