Product Review: Minisuit SPORTY Armband

When you’re connecting with a customer, it’s always a good idea to start off just right.  A handwritten note goes a long way with me.

Welcome

That was how I was introduced to Minisuit.

Through my affiliation with Raynforest, I received a Minisuit SPORTY Armband + Key Holder for my iPhone 5S. If you read my last Raynforest related post, you know that I am in the process of getting healthier. Not as a New Year’s Resolution but as a lifestyle change. Eating right is one step. Exercising is the other. Whether it is through walking or running or letting Jillian Michaels kick my butt with one of her videos, exercising is part of the routine.

But, I also like to listen to music – sorry, Jillian. Or, check my social media accounts – well, not when I’m working out to your video, Jillian. But, carrying a phone in your hand or in your pocket can be kind of cumbersome. That’s where the Minisuit SPORTY Armband comes in.

MINISUIT BASICS

The actual size of the Minisuit is 5 3/4″ x 5 1/2″. Weight = under 2 ounces. Obviously it works perfectly for the iPhone 5S since that’s what it’s made for – the phone slides somewhat easily into the slot on the back of the Minisuit (photo below). There is a small slot on the back to plug in headphones. A necessary requirement for me.

Having never used one of these before, it didn’t seem too cumbersome. I’m an average-sized person so there wasn’t much challenge to putting it on my arm – I took the easy way out by strapping it together then sliding it on my arm. With its velcro sealing strap, it is easily adjustable. The Minisuit’s touchscreen over the phone is still accessible (photo below) when stationary (more on that in a minute).

 USAGE

To get a proper feel for the product, I asked my college-aged son to use it too. He’s 5’9″ and in shape (he’s a runner) as he works out regularly. He used it while running, using the machines and free weights at the gym. Here is what he had to say:

  • Good for running, biking, hardly noticeable (cardio workouts)
  • Not good for lifting
  • Weight lifting apps, pain to take out of sleeve and out back in to see the app
  • Social media inaccessible

IMG_1890 My usage differed in that when I work out, I work out. Unless I’m on something stationary, I don’t need to check my phone. I use my phone to listen to music. In that respect, it was more than adequate. Having not used one before, it did take some getting used to. It reminded me of a small blood pressure cuff – the sensation of it around my arm at first. I do recommend having a short sleeve shirt on when using it, as opposed to the workout-style tank or halter tops. I didn’t like the feel of it on my bare skin. It felt like it was rubbing or would irritate the skin if left on too long.

One thing I did want to mention is the issue of sweat. Having read other reviews, there could be an issue with an excessive amount of sweat gathering inside. As someone who doesn’t sweat a whole lot even at a hard pace, I didn’t see that issue arise. My son did not have this issue either.

The only issue I have with the product is that I have a Lifeproof case. If someone works out on an every day basis, which I do not yet, this could be a drawback. Not an insurmountable one if you ask me. If you like something enough, you’ll make it work…even if it inconveniences you.

Overall, it was a very nice product. I will definitely use it as my workout load increases. 4 out of 5 Chica-stars.
